A New York ticket scalper should have read Trump: The Art of The Deal before attempting to flip a pricey pair of tickets to Friday鈥檚 Inauguration Ceremonies in the U.S. Capitol -- especially the passage about knowing your market.
Yossi Rosenberg, a business development manager who says he supported Hillary Clinton, was unable to offload the two tickets he bought on Craigslist for US$700 after an exhausting effort to find a buyer online.
鈥淚 tried everything to sell the tickets. I went on Craigslist. I figured out how to hack Craigslist,鈥� he told 麻豆传媒 Channel. 鈥淚 even tried neo-Nazi sites. That didn鈥檛 work either.鈥�
Rosenberg initially had a lot of conviction in his buy low, sell high strategy. He even conducted his own market research on Facebook, tracking down two buyers willing to pay $1,400 for the tickets before he purchased them. They 鈥渇laked鈥� after he procured the passes two days later.
Frustrated by the lack of interest, he says he took out an ad on a friend鈥檚 right-wing aggregation website.
鈥淗e put an ad with me holding the tickets on the site. So all the right-wingers who were watching Infowars and Michael Savage saw an ad for my tickets,鈥� he said.
The Washington D.C. Craigslist page shows Rosenberg was not alone in looking to make a quick buck off the historic occasion. Unsold tickets are still up for sale with asking prices above $1,000 a pair.
Out of options, Rosenberg grudgingly made the trip to Washington D.C. to join the crowd at the National Mall to watch Donald Trump take the oath of office to become the 45th President of the United States.
鈥淚 felt kind of like a 50-year-old scalper who gets stuck with Justin Bieber tickets,鈥� he said. 鈥淚t wasn鈥檛 really my audience. I didn鈥檛 vote for Donald Trump. I was part of the more anti-Donald Trump movement.鈥�
