WHITEHORSE -- The Yukon government says it has recorded its first case of COVID-19 in a long-term care facility since the pandemic began.
The government says in a news release that a resident who transferred to Copper Ridge Place from the Whitehorse General Hospital tested positive for the virus on Sunday.
It says the person is in isolation and otherwise in good health, and residents and staff in the same unit are being monitored and tested as required.
Yukon has four long-term care homes with 220 residents and the homes were the first to introduce pandemic-related health and safety protocols.
The government say the vaccination rate among long-term care residents is more than 95 per cent.
The new long-term care case is among five new COVID-19 infections confirmed since Friday for a total of 689 infections, with 21 active cases.
