The independent film festival Sundance, taking place this year from January 21st to the 31st in Salt Lake City, Utah, has a list of contenders.

On Dec. 2, the annual Sundance Festival revealed the 65 films who will be contending for awards in the U.S. and World Cinema Competitions, as well as the out-of-competition NEXT category.

In all, 120 films have been selected from a submissions pool of nearly 13,000. The remaining movies will be announced in the coming weeks. Nearly 100 of those in the lineup will premiere for the first time at the festival.

The Sundance Institute, which hosts the festival, was founded by Robert Redford in 1978 and has become the largest independent film festival in the United States.
