Matthew Perry's stepfather, journalist Keith Morrison, is opening up about the 鈥淔riends鈥 star months after his death at the age of 54.
Morrison was a recent guest on Hoda Kotb鈥檚 podcast 鈥 where he talked about his stepson, whose death was determined to have been the result of 鈥渁cute effects of ketamine.鈥
The grief over losing Perry 鈥渄oesn鈥檛 go away,鈥 Morrison said.
鈥淚t鈥檚 with you every day,鈥 he added. 鈥淚t鈥檚 with you all the time.鈥
Perry was 鈥渓arger than life鈥 and in a really good place emotionally in the months prior to his tragic death, his stepdad said.
鈥淗e was happy, and he said so. And he hadn鈥檛 said that for a long time,鈥 Morrison said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a source of comfort, but also he didn鈥檛 get to have his third act and that鈥檚 not fair.鈥
鈥淎nd as he said himself, 鈥業f I suddenly died, people would be shocked, but not too many people would be surprised.鈥 And he was right.鈥
The actor had been very open about his struggles with substance abuse. Morrison said, 鈥淗e felt like he was beating it.鈥
鈥淏ut you never beat it,鈥 he added. 鈥淎nd he knew that, too.鈥
A reporter known for his work with crime stories, Morrison also spoke about his relationship with Perry, saying he 鈥渘ever tried to replace his dad, but I was there for him and he knew it.鈥
Morrison鈥檚 comments mirrored some of those from 鈥淔riends鈥 costar Jennifer Aniston, who said she texted with a 鈥渉appy and healthy鈥 Perry just hours before his death.
