American women who support Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in the U.S. election have taken to social media to defend their choice and encourage other women to join them. On Friday morning, the top trending hashtag on Twitter was #WomenWhoVoteTrump after the national director for the group , Jennifer Arangio, emailed followers asking them to participate in the social media campaign.
“The time is now to show your support for Donald J. Trump! Help us spread the word that millions of women are supporting Trump,†Arangio wrote.
The hashtag movement follows a week of controversy stemming from that Trump sexually assaulted and groped them according to reports from The New York Times and People Magazine. Trump has and accused his rival Hillary Clinton of running a smear campaign against him. The response also comes after a , in 2005, between Trump and then “Access Hollywood†host Billy Bush was leaked to the press last week. The tape prompted intense media scrutiny about Trump’s treatment and perception of women.
