After a review of Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly鈥檚 forthcoming memoir insinuated that she was poisoned ahead of Donald Trump鈥檚 appearance at the first Republican primary debate, she is setting the record straight.
Kelly took to Twitter after the New York Times published a review of her soon-to-be-released memoir Settle for More.
In her review, the Times鈥� book critic Jennifer Senior hints that Donald Trump may have had early access to Kelly鈥檚 questions ahead of the Republican primary debate on Aug. 6, 2015. Kelly had intended to ask Trump鈥檚 about his comments concerning women, according to Senior.
鈥淭hen, the day before the first presidential debate, Mr. Trump was in a lather again, Ms. Kelly writes. He called Fox executives, saying he鈥檇 heard that her first question 鈥渨as a very pointed question directed at him,鈥� Senior wrote in the review.
Kelly tweeted on Thursday night that she doesn鈥檛 believe Trump knew about her debate questions in advance.
鈥淔or the record, my book "Settle for More" does not suggest Trump had any debate Qs in advance, nor do I believe that he did,鈥� Kelly wrote.
Kelly also refuted the insinuation that she was poisoned by the 鈥渙verzealous鈥� and 鈥渟uspiciously enthusiastic鈥� driver who picked her up that day. Senior wrote that, 鈥淗e insisted on getting her coffee, though she鈥檇 repeatedly declined his offer. Once it was in her hand, she drank it. And within 15 minutes, she was violently ill, vomiting so uncontrollably that it was unclear if she鈥檇 be able to go on and help moderate that evening.鈥�
鈥淎lso for the record, I believe the reason I got sick the day of the first debate was I contracted a stomach virus, just as Rand Paul did,鈥� Kelly wrote in a tweet.
Kelly鈥檚 tumultuous relationship with Trump made headlines in the summer when the two clashed during that first debate. The billionaire businessman lashed out at her in the media and on Twitter afterwards. Trump created a firestorm of controversy when he said during a televised interview in August that there was blood coming out of Kelly鈥檚 eyes, 鈥渂lood coming out of her鈥� whatever鈥� during the debate.
Tensions between the two appeared to ease since the fall of 2015 with Kelly even having Trump on her show in May for a one-on-one interview. In October, however, Trump changed his tune when he praised Newt Gingrich for telling Kelly in a TV interview that she was 鈥渇ascinated with sex.鈥�
