BERLIN -- German officials have reached an agreement with a reclusive collector on how to deal with the trove of more than 1,400 artworks found at his Munich apartment, which his lawyer says will allow him to recover quickly those pieces that indisputably belong to him.
The works were seized from Cornelius Gurlitt's apartment by authorities investigating a tax case in 2012 but the situation became public only last November.
The Bavarian Justice Ministry, the federal culture minister's office and Gurlitt's representatives said in a joint statement Monday that Gurlitt agreed to co-operate with authorities in their efforts to determine what works may have been seized by the Nazis. Gurlitt will be allowed his own representative on a task force investigating their origin.
