WINNIPEG - A man is in hospital after being hit with a Taser by Winnipeg police. Const. Jason Michalyshen says police responded to complaints of a disturbance outside a home early Sunday.

Michalyshen says officers encountered a 42-year-old male suspect who refused to put down a knife.

The man fell backwards and struck his head on the sidewalk after he was shot with a stun gun.

He was taken to hospital in critical condition, but has since been upgraded to stable.

Last month, a 17-year-old youth died after Winnipeg police shot him with a Taser.
