MOGADISHU, Somalia - A Somali official says gunmen have kidnapped two western Catholic nuns in Kenya and taken them over the border into southern Somalia.
Chairman of Somalia's Elwaqt district Sheik Hussein Kotalow said he did not know the identity of the gunmen or their motivation.
The northern Kenyan town of Qalow where the abduction occurred is about 10 kilometres from the Somali border.
The Somali government has been fighting a growing Islamic insurgency led by al Qaeda-linked militants for almost two years.
