WASHINGTON - Toyota Canada has issued a voluntary safety recall of thousands of 2011 model Sienna minivans due to potential problems with the brake light switch.
It says the brake light switch bracket could become deformed, which could make the brake lights stay on.
Depending on the amount of damage, brakes could drag, leading to noise or vibration and, if not fixed, the brakes could become less effective.
The company says the 12,600 vehicles concerned were made before November 2010 and owners of the recalled minivans will receive a letter by mail giving them details on how to get the problem repaired.
In the meantime, the company's website will give drivers instructions on what to do if they encounter the problem.
Toyota says it doesn't know of any injuries or accidents related to the issue.
No other Toyota vehicles are involved in the recall.
