PARIS - The lawyer for a French writer claiming that high-profile politician Dominique Strauss-Kahn tried to rape her eight years ago says his client would meet New York prosecutors for a separate case only if French authorities accepted an official request.
David Koubbi told the French daily Le Parisien he wouldn't advise Tristane Banon to meet voluntarily with prosecutors investigating a Manhattan hotel maid's claim that Strauss-Kahn tried to rape her.
In an interview published Thursday, Koubbi said he met the maid while in New York Tuesday to speak to prosecutors about their case there.
He said that "If there's an official request" his client would testify in New York.
Lies have tarnished the maid's credibility and it was unclear whether the New York case would survive.
