NEW YORK - Dominique Strauss-Kahn is asking a New York court to dismiss the lawsuit filed by the hotel maid who says he sexually assaulted her.

Lawyers for the former International Monetary Fund leader filed the motion in the Bronx yesterday.

They argue Strauss-Kahn's time as IMF head gives him diplomatic immunity.

The 62-year-old was charged with attempted rape after Nafissatou Diallo claimed he attacked her in his hotel suite in May.

The criminal case was dismissed after prosecutors said they'd lost faith in Diallo's credibility, but Diallo's lawyers filed a civil lawsuit against Strauss-Kahn.

There's a lower burden of proof in civil cases, and Strauss-Kahn could be called to testify if it goes to trial.

Strauss-Kahn had been considered a leading candidate for the French presidency.

He recently told a French television his encounter with Diallo was a "moral failing," but insisted that no crime was committed.
