Ticket prices for this year鈥檚 Super Bowl matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers might even make billionaire Taylor Swift blush.

As of Monday, the February 11 game is the most expensive Super Bowl on record, according to . The average price is hovering around US$9,800, which is 70 per cent more expensive than last year鈥檚 big game.

The current 鈥済et-in鈥 price (the cheapest) for this year鈥檚 game is US$8,188, which is more than 50 per cent more expensive than the cheapest ticket price of last year鈥檚 Super Bowl during this time, when it cost US$5,997.

Defending Super Bowl champions the Chiefs are headed to the big game for the fourth time in five years. The last time they faced the 49ers in the Super Bowl was in 2020, when the Chiefs mounted a comeback and were victorious.

The 2020 game was previously the most expensive Super Bowl on record, according to TickPick, which had an average purchase price of US$6,370. Those tickets were 35 per cent less expensive than this year鈥檚 matchup.

One major factor for the sky-high prices is the city itself. Las Vegas is a 鈥渂ig factor for the record-high demand,鈥 Brett Goldberg, co-CEO of TickPick, told CNN, because the 鈥渓ocation is turning a three-hour game into a week full of festivities for fans attending.鈥

鈥淥ver the 12 months, Las Vegas has slowly begun to solidify itself as the sports capital of the U.S., and this might be its crowning moment,鈥 he said. The Nevada city held a Formula 1 race in November.

As per usual, ticket prices might decline as the game gets closer, with resellers looking to offload their seats for lower prices. TickPick noticed that last year, with 鈥渇atigue鈥 for some Chiefs fans, but Goldberg said the city 鈥渃ould very well convince fans to attend regardless.鈥

For those looking for a bargain on tickets, don鈥檛 bother. Goldberg said while they could 鈥減otentially see prices fall鈥 over the next two weeks, prices didn鈥檛 decline before the 2020 Super Bowl matchup when both teams previously played.

鈥淪o while we might see prices dip, it may not be significant,鈥 Goldberg said.

Super Bowl LVIII is set for Sunday, February 11 in Las Vegas with kickoff happening at 6:30 p.m. ET. The game airs on CBS and its streaming service Paramount+.
