Edmonton Oilers jerseys are back in stock after fans saw them disappear more than a week ago, thanks in part to the anticipation of a new jersey supplier.
The Oilers are in the playoffs for the first time in a decade, causing a surge in jersey sales at a time when supplies are lacking. Beginning in the 2017-2018 season, instead of Reebok.
According to Kelly Hodgson, brand manager at United Cycle, Oilers jerseys are in short supply across the country in anticipation of the switch.
鈥淩eebok wants to be as close to zero as possible when the NHL season is done,鈥� Hodgson told CTV Edmonton. 鈥淭hey鈥檝e done their buying according to that.鈥�
Many stores have managed to re-supply their stock of bright orange and blue jerseys after the initial buying-craze, including Edmonton鈥檚 west-end Pro-Hockey Life that features a wall of jerseys for Oilers鈥� scoring leader Connor McDavid.
According to staff at United Cycle, they鈥檝e managed to scrape together a few hundred Oilers jerseys from stores across Canada, but they don鈥檛 expect them to last -- especially if the Oilers move past the first round.
鈥淚 think we鈥檝e exhausted our efforts,鈥� said Hodgson. 鈥淚 say that when we have our buyer on the phone every day trying to secure more jerseys (from) anywhere in North America.鈥�
The Edmonton Oilers are currently leading the San Jose Sharks 3-2 in their playoff series.
