FORT WORTH, Texas -- Danica Patrick says she was doing what she felt she had to do when wrecking another driver in retaliation.
Patrick said Saturday that there are times when drivers have to demand respect from somebody based on actions on the track.
She was fined $50,000 and docked 25 points but not suspended after intentionally wrecking David Gilliland last weekend at Martinsville.
That was the same race for which Matt Kenseth drew a two-race suspension after he intentionally wrecked race-leading Chase contender Joey Logano.
After Sprint Cup practice was cancelled Saturday because of a wet track, Patrick helped present the keys to the first customer-purchased sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro. Patrick was sitting in the driver's seat when the Kansas man who bought the 2016 model saw it for the first time.
