The Toronto Blue Jays flew in a good luck charm from the Prairies ahead of their showdown with the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday -- a young fan who made a special connection with designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion last summer.

Roan Heck from Settler, Alta., met the Blue Jays slugger in Seattle last July on a family trip to see the team play on the road when he was seven years old.

He arrived at Safeco Field three hours early that day, decked out head to toe in Jays gear -- including the team logo on his prosthetic leg. When Roan went in for a better view from behind the dugout, his passion for the team must have caught Encarnacion’s eye.

Before he knew it, his big brother was handing the leg over the rail for an autograph. Encarnacion made sure he got a signature from the entire team. After signing the leg, Encarnacion started a hitting streak that ended up lasting 26 games.

Last week, the Settler family got a call from the Jays. The team invited them on an all-expenses paid trip to Toronto to watch Wednesday’s game against the Orioles from a private box at Rogers Centre.

Roan tells CTV Toronto he’s anticipating a major win for the Jays.

“The Blue Jays to win. The score is going to be a thousand, trillion, billion, zillion, to zero,†he said.

Roan lost his left leg in a lawnmower accident when he was one year old, but that hasn’t stopped him from getting out on the field and playing the game.

“At school he’s faster than some of the kids with two legs,†his mother Jolene told CTV Edmonton last year. “He has a lot of heart.â€

It’s Roan’s first trip to Toronto. The Heck family plans to visit the Hockey Hall of Fame and the CN Tower on while they’re in town.

“It’s emotional for us, with him being with just one leg. Some of his opportunities are not out there, but he doesn’t let that affect him,†said his father Neil.
