SAO PAULO, Brazil - Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Sao Paulo on Saturday in another protest against the World Cup, which is set to begin in Brazil in less than three weeks.
The Sao Paulo police department said on its Twitter page that no violent incidents had been reported and that about 250 protesters took part in the demonstration which began outside the city's Roman Catholic cathedral.
After about two hours the protesters marched down nearby streets chanting "there will be no World Cup."
Protests over increases in bus and subway fares, government corruption, poor public services and the billions of dollars spent to host the World Cup broke out last year in several cities. Protesters say the money would be better spent on improving Brazil's health, education, security and infrastructure systems than on the soccer tournament.
Several smaller protest rallies have taken place since then.
The monthlong tournament starts with the June 12 opener in Sao Paulo.
