Britney Spears promised 2007 would mark her musical comeback. Instead, she shaved her head, invited paparazzi into a L.A. shop's bathroom with her and poked the hell out of a car window with an umbrella.

All that, plus the erratic actions that cost her temporary custody of her two young sons left Britney's comeback somewhere in the dust between the last curb she crashed into and the drive through at Taco Bell.

Yet nothing in 2007's woeful miasma of Britney madness compared with her out-of-sync performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. Opening the show with a rendition of "Gimme More," in two minutes Spears' image plummeted from pop princess to paunchy, flophouse floozy.
