French company Withings has unveiled its Activité Pop fitness-oriented smart watch that's easily mistaken for a classic analogue watch -- the kind that seemed to be long forgotten when the new wave of smart watches rolled in.

The watch is themed around embracing healthy habits and setting goals for maintaining the right balance between sleep and activity.

It's capable of tracking both light and deep cycles of sleep and wakes you up gently with a silent alarm.

Touted as a pocket coach, it knows the difference between walking and running and it's water resistant, so you can wear it swimming and record how many laps you complete.

The corresponding Health Mate app allows you to connect to your friends for some healthy competition.

Like an analog watch, it requires no charging, although its battery lasts only eight months, a far cry from most analog watches.

It's made of soft silicone and comes in Shark Grey, Bright Azure and Wild Sand and adjusts automatically as you travel between time zones.

The watch, which is being shown at CES this week in Las Vegas, will be available at the beginning of February and will be compatible first with iOS and later Android devices.
