Twitter is investigating a bug that has caused some posts to disappear from the social media site, including the most-retweeted post in the site's history.

A photo posted to the site by TV host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres during the Oscars was retweeted more than 3.4 million times, but the post disappeared from the site earlier this week.

Twitter users have also posted messages on the site about missing tweets belonging to Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson.

Users reported that links to the missing tweets led to error messages saying that the page didn't exist.

Some of the missing tweets, including DeGeneres' photo, have since reappeared online.

"We are currently researching a bug that has caused some Tweets to not be displayed," the company posted on its Tuesday evening.

This is the third time the U.S. company experienced technical issues this month, according to its website.

On March 2, users had issues viewing and sending tweets through web and the site's mobile app. On March 11, Twitter was unavailable for several hours due to complications from a site update.

So far it is unclear if all the tweets will be restored.
