There are so many companies showing off their latest smartwatches at International CES this year, you have to try hard to find a display that doesn’t feature something you can wear.

Booths are littered with these things, offered in a rainbow of colours and a variety of shapes.

Tap a button here, swipe there and almost every device will tell you how many steps you’ve taken, your heart rate and if you need to exercise more.

There is one device, however, that tells you all that plus whether you should hit the snooze button or stay on the couch.

JayBird’s new wearable, the Reign, starts off being smart by automatically figuring out what it is that you do to stay active.

Users don’t need to tell the watch whether they’re running or biking or hiking; the device figures it out based on the pattern of motions it detects -- and then calculates how many calories the wearer is burning based on their personal details, such as age, sex and weight.

Coupled with sensors to determine how much sleep you’re getting, the Reign will provide users with a “Go-Zone†score.

“It’ll let you know what you need to do to be optimal,†says Shaun Fuhriman, account manager at JayBird.

That means if you should be taking the day off from the gym, the Reign will let you know.

Fuhriman says the device aims to prevent people from exercising when their body can’t draw the most benefits from physical activity. “Really, you’ll have a voice for your body,†he says.

It’s not all about taking it easy. Users with a high score in the Go-Zone are urged to push their bodies harder with an extra few minutes on the treadmill, for example, to take advantage of that energy.

The Reign will be available in May 2014, retailing for $199.
