3D Systems, a company specializing in 3D printers for consumers and businesses, created a stir this week at CES with a model to rival Willy Wonka's wackiest candy-making machinery.

Using sugar and flavorings rather than plastic, the ChefJet 3D "prints" out candies that would be impossible to make using traditional methods.

Marketed at professional pastry chefs and candy makers, the new line of gourmet 3D printers includes two models: the ChefJet monochrome counter-top printer (8x8x6 inches) and the full-color ChefJet Pro (10x14x8 inches).

Both are used with printing materials that come in a number of flavours, including chocolate, vanilla, mint or even watermelon. The two versions of the ChefJet will be sold from the second half of 2014 at prices under $5,000 and under $10,000 respectively.

The sweets device isn't the only announcement from 3D Systems to make waves at CES. The company also garnered headlines with the news that it has brought on recording artist will.i.am as its Chief Creative Officer and brand ambassador.
