Would you spend more than $12,000 on a Pez dispenser commemorating the upcoming royal wedding? Would you do it for charity?

It appears someone is prepared to fork over that kind of cash for a plastic wedding memento, as an auction for a special edition set of William and Kate Pez dispensers closed Sunday evening with an official winning bid of 8,200 pounds. That's $12,869.90 in Canadian funds, according to the Bank of Canada's online currency converter.

The winning bid was submitted at 8:11 p.m. British Summer Time Sunday, a mere 10 seconds before the auction closed. There were 33 bids in total over the 10-day auction, which was only open to pre-approved bidders.

Pez created the one-off boxed set, which depicts the royal couple as a set of the famous candy dispensers. William is clad in a dark suit with a red tie, with Kate (or Catherine, as is spelled out on the box) is wearing a blue v-neck dress, not unlike the one she wore when she and her prince met the media to announce their engagement.

"So, dear collectors and fans of the Royal Family, seize the chance to get a unique souvenir of the wedding of the year 2011," read a posting on the Pez blog, announcing the auction.

The company says that 100 per cent of the proceeds from the auction will go to the Starlight Children's Foundation, a U.K.-based charity that grants wishes for terminally ill children.

There is no word yet on the identity of the winning bidder.
