OTTAWA - The Air India inquiry has been told the RCMP and the country's security agency work together far more closely today than they did 20 years ago.

Four senior Mounties who work on national security investigations have told the inquiry their relationship with the Canadian Security Intelligence Service is excellent.

They say the rivalries and squabbling that troubled the Air India investigation two decades ago have been set aside.

They say the two bodies consult regularly on their cases and exchange information freely.

They say the kinds of conflicts that swirled around the Air India investigation do not happen Friday because there are new processes and practices that stress co-operation.

The inquiry under retired Supreme Court justice John Major is looking into the investigation of the terrorist attack which killed 329 people in June 1985.
