OTTAWA - Bob Rae won't let his controversial record as Ontario premier stop him from lambasting the Harper government's management of Canada's stalled economy.

The interim Liberal leader says he knows full well the Conservatives will say they need to take no lessons from him, given his record as premier during the recession of the early 1990s.

But he says he'll stack his record against that of the Tories any day and is urging them to "bring it on."

Rae says GDP results showing the economy contracted in the second quarter prove the Tories are wrong to focus on cutting taxes and spending.

He says a planned $4 billion in spending cuts should be delayed and corporate tax reductions should be rolled back.

And he says the government should invest in infrastructure and other programs to stimulate the flagging economy and create jobs.
