OTTAWA - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with Liberal leader Bob Rae Sunday as he wrapped up a brief visit to Canada.

A Liberal party news release says the meeting touched on concerns about Iran's nuclear ambitions and Israel's ongoing dispute with the Palestinians.

Rae, who has visited the Middle East numerous times during his political career, has told Netanyahu that Israel's security is important to Canada.

Rae says Iran's regime is a threat to the world's security and Israel needs to know that it is not alone in its concerns about the implications of this regime for its peace and security.

Netanyahu met with Prime Minister Harper on Friday and is due to meet with U.S. President Barack Obama on Monday.

The Israeli leader has been seeking international support for the idea of a pre-emptive strike on Iran before it develops operational nuclear weapons that could strike Israel.
