QUEBEC - The Quebec Liberal party has been supplementing Premier Jean Charest's annual salary by $75,000 a year since 1998.

Charest confirmed the yearly payment just before a party caucus meeting in Quebec City Tuesday morning.

Liberal officials say there is nothing wrong with the arrangement and that the premier is taxed on the amount.

The $75,000 is on top of Charest's official salary of $182,717.

The Liberals decided to go public with the information after a TV network reported Monday night that Charest was getting an unspecified amount from the party.
