The SPCA Monteregie is on another rescue mission today at a farm in Saint-Robert, Quebec.
A caravan of SUV vehicles stormed the residence, located southeast of the city of Sorel-Tracy, around noon on Wednesday after officials received reports of animal abuse.
Police entered the home but it was empty.
"The SPCA Monteregie received calls from concerned neighbours in the area who reported seeing dead animals on the property," said CTV Montreal's Paul Karwatsky. "We're hearing that it could have been dead pigs but that is not confirmed."
"What is clear is that there are a variety of animals roaming around the property, we've seen dogs, pigs ... a lot of animal sounds coming from a ramshackle shack behind the house."
Karwatsky said the (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) Monteregie has begun to investigate.
The SPCA of Montreal has come under the spotlight recently for fundraising practices as thousands of Canadians poured money into the organization, unaware it operates solely in Montreal.
The group uses the legal name "Canadian SPCA" in its letterheads and fundraising campaigns, misleading some donors into thinking that the charity operated nationwide.
While the SPCA does have a solid reputation for helping animals, dozens of its sister organizations outside Quebec say the group is using unethical fundraising practices that have duped tens of thousands of donors.
