VATICAN CITY - Pope Benedict is pressing for greater freedom of worship for non-Muslims in the Islamic world.
The Pope made his pitch for greater religious tolerance at a meeting Thursday with delegation of Islamic scholars and other representatives of Muslim institutions.
The meeting in the Apostolic Palace at the Vatican capped a three-day conference in Rome aimed at building bridges between the Catholic Church and Islam.
The Pope's baptism of a prominent Egyptian-born Muslim last Easter in St. Peter's Basilica upset some in the Muslim world.
Benedict also angered Muslims with comments linking Islam to violence in a speech in 2006.
On Thursday, the Pope told participants at the forum that he had followed the `progress' of the talks closely.
