The Conservatives are leading the New Democrats by more than eight percentage points in the latest Nanos Research poll, with just two days to go before Canadians mark their ballots.

The poll conducted for CTV and The Globe and Mail reports that 38 per cent of surveyed voters support the Conservatives nationally, while 29.6 per cent support the NDP.

The Liberals sit at 23.3 per cent support, while the Bloc Quebecois (5.2 per cent) and the Greens (3.1 per cent) sit well behind the top-three parties.

Pollster Nik Nanos believes the numbers suggest that the Conservatives are "teetering towards a majority," but such a victory is not certain at this point as it is unclear how the parliamentary seats will be distributed after the election.

"I think election day is going to be about ground warfare between all the federal parties, and also vote splits," Nanos told Â鶹´«Ã½ Channel from Toronto on Saturday morning.

"It's going to be interesting to see how the percentage support across the country translates into actual seats in the House of Commons."

In Atlantic Canada, the Nanos poll suggests the Liberals (37.8 per cent) and the Conservatives (34.5 per cent) are statistically tied, while the survey puts the NDP (23 per cent) and the Greens (2 per cent) further back.

The New Democrats continue to lead in Quebec, where the most recent Nanos poll puts the party at 39 per cent support, ahead of the Bloc Quebecois (22.2 per cent), the Liberals (19.1 per cent) and the Conservatives (16.3 per cent).

In vote-rich Ontario, the polls show a highly competitive race involving the Conservatives (35.3 per cent), the Liberals (31.7 per cent) and the NDP (28.5 per cent). The Greens stand at 3.8 per cent, according to the Nanos poll.

Nik Nanos said there is some shifting taking place in the Ontario polls, but the Conservatives still remain in the lead in that province.

"The Tories are ahead but down, and the NDP and the Liberals are trending up in that key battleground," Nanos said.

The Conservatives continue to dominate the polls in the Prairies, with the Nanos poll placing the party at 65.1 per cent support, with the NDP (19.4 per cent), Liberals (13.3 per cent) and Greens (2.2 per cent) ranking far behind.

In British Columbia, the latest Nanos poll put the Conservatives (43.5 per cent) ahead of the NDP (34.7 per cent), the Liberals (16.2 per cent) and the Greens (5.5 per cent).

Saturday's Nanos poll used a random telephone sample of 1,048 decided Canadian voters, who were surveyed from April 27-29. It is considered accurate to within 3.0 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
