Prime minister-designate Justin Trudeau has responded to an open letter from a British Columbia woman that went viral on Facebook earlier this week.

In the letter posted on her Facebook page, Casandra Fletcher introduces herself as ā€œan average West Coast, middle class mom voterā€ who voted strategically for the Liberal Party on Monday.

She wrote that she cast her ballot with ā€œa pit in my stomachā€ and felt like she was ā€œgambling my life away.ā€

Fletcher made a ā€œtop tenā€ list for Trudeau, saying she hopes he can ā€œdo a few thingsā€ as prime minister after she and ā€œmillions of other Canadiansā€ cast their ballot ā€œagainst the alternativeā€ and ā€œout of pure rage and fear.ā€

Her list included requests that Trudeau change Canadaā€™s electoral system, rebuild Canadaā€™s name on the world stage, protect the countryā€™s natural resources, and support science.

Since it appeared on Facebook Tuesday, Fletcherā€™s letter was shared more than 35,800 times and got more than 41,000 likes.

On his own Facebook page Friday,

ā€œCasandra, I've read your letter with great interest and admiration,ā€ he wrote. ā€œYour honesty and frank words have resonated across the country, and I take them to heart.ā€

Trudeau thanked Fletcher for her vote, ā€œno matter the reason why you marked your ballot as you did,ā€ and said heā€™s focused on building a Liberal cabinet that will be unveiled on Nov. 4. He also encouraged Effe to send him ā€œanother Top 10 sometime down the road.ā€
