The proportion of Canadians who believe Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has the qualities of a good political leader has risen to 73.6 per cent, a new high for Trudeau, according to new tracking from Nanos Research.
Following Trudeau are NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair at 54.4 per cent, former Conservative leader Stephen Harper/ Conservative interim leader Rona Ambrose at 41.8 per cent, and Green Party Leader Elizabeth May 37.7 per cent.
This is the first week of tracking to include Ambrose, and it will take another three weeks to fully transition from Harper, the tracking said.
The poll also found that Trudeau's numbers on the question of preferred prime minister continue to climb.
In the weeks since the Oct. 19 federal election, which the Liberals won, 50.9 per cent of Canadians prefer Trudeau as prime minister. Following him are Harper/Ambrose at 18.4 per cent, Mulcair at 13 per cent, and May at 5 per cent. The percentage of Canadians that were unsure was 11.3 per cent.
The data is based on random telephone interviews with 1,000 Canadians, using a four-week rolling average of 250 respondents each week, 18 years of age and over. The random sample of 1,000 respondents may be weighted by age and gender using the latest census information for Canada, and the sample is geographically stratified to be representative of the country.
The interviews are compiled into a four-week rolling average of 1,000 interviews where each week, the oldest group of 250 interviews is dropped and a new group of 250 interviews is added. The current wave of tracking is based on a four-week rolling average of 1,000 Canadians (250 per week) ending Nov. 13th.
A random telephone survey of 1,000 Canadians is accurate 3.1 percentage points, plus or minus, 19 times out of 20.
