Investigators are probing the disappearance of a three-year old British girl from a Portuguese resort, who went missing just 90 metres away from her parents.
Police have been searching for Madeleine McCann, from Rothley, Leicestershire, since May 3.
Her parents, Kate and Gerry, had left Madeleine alone with her two siblings, two-year-old twins Sean and Amelie, while they ate dinner at the Mark Warner Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz.
"Please, please don't hurt her," Kate McCann said in a televised appeal earlier this week. "Please don't scare her. Please tell us where to find her."
Their family has told Britain's Daily Mail newspaper the couple decided against using a babysitter because they did not want to leave their children with a stranger.
But they had routinely checked on the children the evening of the apparent abduction, until 10 p.m. when their daughter was gone.
Portuguese police have searched about 500 apartments in the area, but have not released details of the investigation because of secrecy laws.
But it's been reported the other two children were asleep at the time, there were no witnesses, and no obvious signs of a break-in - although a window and shutter were open.
Some critics have accused the police of being slow to respond to the incident, but British ambassador to Portugal John Buck has said Madeleine's parents are grateful to investigators.
He said that the case must remain under the authority of the Portugeuse police, although British experts have arrived to help investigators.
"They assure me that everything possible is being done to ensure the safe return of Madeleine," he said.
Meanwhile, Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays for the British team Manchester United, has also made a televised appeal for the girl's safety and freedom.
"Please, if you have any type of information, please tell us," he said. "I think this is very important for all of us."
