Toyota is slamming the brakes on production for eight of its popular models – including the best-selling Camry and Corolla sedans. The company is also suspending sales of the vehicles. The problem lies with reports of faulty gas pedals

Key Points:

  • The recall affects roughly 2.3 million vehicles in the U.S. and 270,000 in Canada
  • The models represented 57 percent of Toyota’s 2009 US sales. They also represent some of North America’s best-selling models, including the Camry and Corolla
  • If your gas pedal starts to feel sticky, stop driving immediately. Experts say that drivers who experience sudden acceleration should put the transmission into neutral
  • Toyota recommends that drivers pull over in a safe place, then call a dealer and have them come get your car
  • Since the problem develops gradually over time, Toyota says you should have plenty of warning before the pedal gets really sticky

The models affected by the January 21 recall are:

  • 2009-2010 RAV4
  • 2009-2010 Corolla
  • 2009-2010 Matrix
  • 2005-2010 Avalon
  • 2007-2010 Camry
  • 2010 Highlander
  • 2007-2010 Tundra
