When travelling great distances, comfort is in order but when you stop for that restaurant dinner your yoga pants might not be the right fit. Shannon Johnson from Winners is here to show us some easy mix and match pieces that will have you traveling in comfort and style on your next road trip.

Here are the  recommended items to pack for a road trip lasting a week, which should fit into a small carry-on bag. You can mix and match the pieces to get multiple outfits to suit the many and varied activities, climates that you will experience o your trip, while keeping your suitcase as light as possible.

In general, you should choose items from one colour family, allowing every item you pack "multiple partner" options.

Specifics items to pack.

Light weight denim:

  • Pack a summer-weight denim that won't heat you up. Look for a wide leg style, which will be more comfortable and less bunchy during those long car rides as opposed to a heavyweight fitted or skinny pair.

Tunic top:

  • A short-sleeve or sleeveless tunic style top goes great with everything from jeans to capris and can serve double duty as a pool or beach- side cover-up.

Capri:

  • Instead of packing a pair of shorts and a pair of pants, pack one pair of capris to keep your load lighter. They will keep you cooler than pants in the day, and are smarter than a short for evening.

Jersey dress:

  • Cool, comfortable and wrinkle resistant, a jersey dress works for all road trip occasions: Dressed down with flip-flops for museum visits, or with a heel for a nice dinner, it is the least restricting garment for those long travel days in the car when comfort is key.

Military jacket:

  • Layers are important, as temperatures can change from place to place. Look for a jacket that can play double duty for day and night. It is a better alternative to a jean jacket which can look too casual for some activities and is also better than a trench which can get bunchy and cumbersome in the car.

Tank tops:

  • Throw a few of these into your bag. They are cool, comfortable and are great for hot temperatures or for cooler climates.
