FORT LIARD, N.W.T. - One person has been killed while another was treated and released from hospital after a small plane crashed in the Northwest Territories.

RCMP say the SuperClub went down about 100 kilometres north of Fort Liard in the Jackfish Creek area on Aug. 21.

Police say the pilot suffered extensive injuries and was airlifted to Nahanni Butte, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The passenger was airlifted to Fort Simpson, N.W.T., where he was examined and later released from hospital.

RCMP, who say they don't know why it took four days to issue a news release, say the name of the pilot is not being released.

The Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
