SEOUL, South Korea - The South Korean government says North Korea has reopened the border to allow South Koreans who work at a joint industrial complex to return home.

Unification Ministry spokeswoman Lee Jong-joo says the North lifted the ban on crossing the border - one of the world's most heavily armed frontiers - which it closed on Friday.

Tensions have increased on the divided Korean peninsula over the North's plans to launch a rocket.

The Kaesong industrial complex combines South Korean technology and management expertise with North Korea's cheap labour.

It has been a key source of much-needed hard currency for the impoverished North.

The more than 100 South Korean factories there employ about 38,000 North Korean workers.
