LONDON - A technology firm has told British lawmakers probing phone hacking allegations that it knew of nine occasions when News International asked to delete large numbers of emails.
India-based HCL Technologies told a Parliament committee that News International, the publisher of the now defunct News of The World, requested the deletion of hundreds of thousands of emails in the past 15 months. But the company says it noticed nothing "abnormal or untoward" about the requests.
The widening phone hacking and police bribery scandals have thrown a spotlight on the conduct of News International journalists and managers.
HCL said Monday it did not store any emails or other data for the Rupert Murdoch-owned New International.
