ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - The Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association says the province's three gynecological oncologists have postponed their resignations because they haven't been able to notify their patients.

The doctors had planned to resign Oct. 7, but medical association executive director Rob Ritter says they haven't fully received patient record information from the Eastern Health authority.

Ritter says the gynecological oncologists need that information so they can give their patients proper notice of their resignations.

Ritter says they expect to get that information later this week.

Eastern Health, the province's largest health authority, has had problems in the past with its record management and is at the centre of an ongoing public inquiry into botched breast cancer tests involving roughly 400 patients.

Ritter says the oncologists will work until at least Dec. 15, but won't be accepting any new patients after this week.
