Malaysia Airlines confirmed Thursday that it had lost contact with flight MH17, which was carrying 298 people from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. The last contact the airline had with the plane was over Ukrainian airspace, .

Meanwhile, a Ukrainian official said Thursday that a passenger plane was shot down near a rebel-held village in eastern Ukraine. The Donetsk region government said a plane crashed Thursday near the village of Grabovo, which it says is currently under the control of pro-Russian separatists. Both the Ukrainian government and pro-Russia separatists denied any responsibility.
