A woman has been found dead in her tent at the Occupy Vancouver camp near the city's art gallery.

Emergency crews arrived at the camp just after 4:30 p.m. local time Saturday after a friend found the woman, and at first believed she was asleep.

The woman, who was in her 20s, was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The cause of death has yet to be determined, Vancouver Police Const. Jana McGuinness said in a statement.

"No evidence has been uncovered at this early stage in the investigation to suggest the death is suspicious," McGuinness said.

The incident comes two days after a protester suffered a non-fatal drug overdose.

Concerns over drug use at the site and other potential hazards led fire officials to declare the camp unsafe earlier this week. Fire crews returned to the site Saturday to check on tents they deemed a hazard.

While some access lanes had been cleared, they discovered that some tags they had placed on tents they were concerned about had been removed.

Conditions at the camp have led mayoral candidate Suzanne Anton to call for a legal injunction to remove the tents altogether.

"It's not any one thing, but rats, drug overdose, now there's fire safety," Anton said. "If the site can't be safe, there's cost, huge cost to Vancouver taxpayers."

Mayor Gregor Robertson has so far resisted calls to force the protesters from the camp.

"Pushing for an ultimatum or for an intervention has not worked anywhere else," Robertson said Saturday. "It's caused violence and conflict in other cities."
