TORONTO - Leaping into the frigid and choppy waters of Lake Ontario in a suitcase designed more than 90 years ago may not be the most sane idea.

But testing the bag, which can be converted into a waterproof flotation suit to help save victims of sinking ships, is worth the risk for Matt Hunter and Jeremy MacPherson.

The Toronto-based co-hosts of the television show "The Re-Inventors,'' successfully put the Canadian invention to the test Friday.

The men built the suitcase using the original 1915 design by John Edlund, a former sailor who settled in Alberta and was motivated to create the contraption following the sinking of the Titanic in 1912.

He survived three shipwrecks himself and wanted to avoid further tragedy on the high seas.

The men suggest that while their bag is very heavy, it managed to keep Hunter afloat and could have made a difference in people's lives.
