KAMLOOPS, B.C. - A group who survived a residential school for people with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities are outraged by the latest legal development in their case.

The Woodlands school survivors have filed an appeal of a B.C. Supreme Court order that excludes one-third of former residents of the institution from a class-action lawsuit.

Spokesman Gregg Schiller group says the order, which was sought by the provincial government, pertains to residents who lived at Woodlands before Aug. 1, 1974.

He says the people the order targets are some of the oldest in the group, who are living in poor health and poverty.

Schiller says he hopes to have a court date in May to begin the appeal process.

The group of 3,600 people is suing the provincial government for abuse and asking for compensation of $15,000 each to be deposited to a tax free account, so disability benefits can remain intact.
