OTTAWA - The Queen will visit Canada next summer.

Elizabeth and Prince Philip are to arrive June 28 and are scheduled to be in Ottawa for Canada Day.

The couple will also travel in Nova Scotia, Ontario and Manitoba before departing July 6.

No further details of the tour have been released.

Their visit follows a cross-country trip by Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, earlier this month.

It also comes at a time when polls suggest a growing number of Canadians are ready to see an end to the monarchy when the Queen dies.

Other surveys suggest that much of the lustre has faded from royal tours.

It will be Queen's 22nd official visit to Canada.

She first came in 1957, when she formally opened a session of Parliament.

Her last visit was in May 2005, when she toured western provinces.

The announcement of her latest visit came after she met Prime Minister Stephen Harper at the Commonwealth summit in Trinidad and Tobago.

Harper welcomed the news of her tour.

"The Crown endures as a symbol of our unique Canadian identity, uniting Canadians of every background and every region," he said.

"Canadians hold Her Majesty and the royal family in deep affection and high regard, a sentiment which is clearly mutual."
