TORONTO - A presidential campaign adviser for Barack Obama says people should remember the new U.S. president can only do so much himself and everyone will have to chip in to bring about real change.
Dennis Wayne Archer, a prominent U.S. lawyer and former mayor of Detroit, spoke before the Law Society of Upper Canada in Toronto on Thursday to celebrate Black History Month.
Archer says the millions of unemployed Americans didn't magically gain jobs was Obama was inaugurated and other problems won't suddenly disappear any time soon.
He recalled how during the presidential drive scores of volunteers and campaign staff worked tirelessly for the common cause of getting Obama in office.
He says people will have to continue to work together, including politicians of different stripes.
Archer says Obama had campaigned on his willingness to work co-operatively with Republicans and less partisanship in politics is what people want.
