EDMONTON -- Premier Jim Prentice says there will not be a provincial sales tax as long as he is the leader of Alberta.
Prentice says that Albertans have told him they don't want such the tax and he agrees with them.
Alberta is the only province without such a levy, but Prentice said earlier this year he would consider it if there was widespread support.
Opposition leaders, however, say Albertans need to be careful with promises from Prentice.
They have all noted that he also promised to follow Alberta's fixed election law, only to drop the writ a year early.
Prentice says his budget sets a 10-year financial path for Alberta and demands a mandate to implement.
