The King has taken a step back from public-facing duties to undergo treatment for cancer, Buckingham Palace announced last month.

On Feb. 5, it revealed he had started a "schedule of regular treatments" in what commentators called an "unprecedented" level of transparency into the .

At the time, his diagnosis was met with well-wishes from leaders around the world.

In Canada, Trudeau wrote that he was "hoping for a fast and full recovery."

Gov. Gen. Mary Simon, who represents the monarch in Canada, also expressed her best wishes for King Charles and applauded his openness about his health.

"We admire The King's strength and determination as he confronts this disease," she said in a statement.

Late last year, before news of the King's diagnosis surfaced, he and Camilla were planning a May visit to Canada, according to unconfirmed reports in the British press.

King Charles hasn't been to Canada since he assumed the throne in September 2022. As the Prince of Wales, he made 16 official visits.
