The pilot of a plane that crashed in British Columbia this past weekend has been identified as Ronald Bullen.

Friends of the 69-year-old pilot said he would have done everything in his power to try and land the plane safely.

Two others died in the crash: David Wood, 37, and his father Bill Wood, 63.

They were on their way home to the Calgary area from Salem, Oregon, after David Wood completed an architecture exam at the University of Oregon.

A search and rescue official reported that the pilot radioed air traffic control just before the crash to report engine failure. At the time, the plane was traveling at 21,000 feet.

The plane crashed about 10 kilometers away from Invermere, near the Alberta border.
