OTTAWA - The largest immunization campaign in Canadian history -- and one that is getting envious attention in the U.S. -- starts today.
While other provinces are set to begin their programs, New Brunswick says nurses and other health officials who will run immunization clinics will be the first to get the shots.
Clinics for the public will open Monday, with the priority being aboriginals, health-care workers and school-aged children.
The province has received more than 83,000 of 600,000 doses ordered.
The rollout of the vaccine today comes just as the province reports its first hospitalized swine flu case.
Dr. Eilish Cleary, New Brunswick's chief medical officer of health, says she's confident that the effects of the flu can be limited if a large portion of the population gets the vaccine in the coming weeks.
