Matt joined CTVNews.ca in 2014, working with the Toronto-based video editing team before switching to creating customized video content for online, social media, and for broadcast in venues including Toronto Pearson International Airport and the Montreal Metro system.
The job means being something of a generalist when it comes to beats, but Matt’s passions include writing and creating content about technology, video games, the climate, and social issues. He has also covered crime and the courts, multiple federal, provincial and municipal elections, and the odd fall fair and fundraiser.
Matt studied journalism in Ottawa and started his career at a small newspaper in Vankleek Hill, Ont., before moving into the Torstar network of papers, which took him to Barrie, Ont. There, Matt became news editor of the Barrie Advance, a job he held for three years before moving over to Â鶹´«Ã½ Barrie. He helped revamp barrie.ctvnews.ca and led the web team there before finally making it to CTVNews.ca in Toronto.
Matt holds Ontario Community Newspaper Association awards in photography and design. He also led the Advance to industry awards in design, photography, and writing. He has also been a judge for the Radio Television Digital News Association awards.
Matt speaks English.
